A lacy metal spiral staircase, arched window, and walls painted a deep purple define the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion in Malaysia

This is a fascinating staircase. In place of railings is a solid sheet of metal that is intricately pierced for a lacy look of light and shadow… the dark color also beautifully sets off the varnished wood steps. Plus I love how the metal sheeting and handrail wrap sinuously around the support pillar at the foot of the stairs. Industrial, but elegant… would look marvelous in a loft.
